Triple Collocation Analysis and In Situ Validation of the CYGNSS Soil Moisture Product

Cyclone Global Navigation Satellite System (CYGNSS) soil moisture (SM) product is characterized by high temporal resolution, but the relative strengths and weaknesses of this new are unknown. In study, we analyze performance CYGNSS SM across varied land covers climates, using triple collocation (TC) analysis in-situ validation. The Soil Moisture Active Passive (SMAP), Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer 2 (AMSR2) Land Parameter Retrieval Model (LPRM), European Space Agency Climate Change Initiative (ESA CCI) products were used as references well data alternatives to calculate TC-based standard deviation ( SDTC ), correlation xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">RTC validation Pearson's coefficient (R), unbiased root-mean-square error (ubRMSE). TC indicated that had a relatively low median 0.024 m 3 /m 0.419. Validation based on 251 stations showed obtained ubRMSE 0.057

Recently Triple Collocation (TC) was adopted for soil moisture application. Results from a first application indicated that the method could be useful to estimate global error patterns. Here we test the method with new data sets. The results show that the method is robust and that it allows to derive objective error estimates.
